Terms

The rules for using ChessReflex, in plain English.
Who you're agreeing with
ChessReflex is run by Brody Kretz, an individual in Boulder, Colorado, USA("we"). By using the website or the app you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy.
Who can use it
You must be at least 13 to create an account. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission to buy a subscription. One account per person, and you are responsible for what happens on yours; keep your password to yourself.
Using ChessReflex fairly
- Don't break, overload or try to get around the limits of the service.
- Don't scrape it, or copy the courses to republish them elsewhere.
- Don't submit scores you didn't earn, or use a public name that is offensive or impersonates someone.
- Don't publish anything unlawful, hateful, or that you don't have the right to share.
What you publish
Courses and minis you create are yours. When you publish one, you give us a worldwide, free, non-exclusive licence to host, display and let other players use it inside ChessReflex for as long as it stays published. Deleting it ends that licence, except for copies other players already made for their own training. We may hide or remove published content that breaks these terms, and may change or remove a public name that does.
The leaderboard
Scores are reported by the app on your device, are capped per day, and may be corrected or reset if they look wrong.
ChessReflex Pro
The free version includes every course and training mode, with a daily allowance of new lines, puzzles and minis. Pro removes those limits.
- Price and renewal. The price is shown before you pay. Pro is a subscription that renews automatically each month at that price until you cancel. If a free trial is offered, you're charged when it ends unless you cancel before then.
- Cancelling. Bought on the website: cancel any time in Settingsunder Manage subscription. Bought in the iOS app: cancel in your Apple ID settings. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Price changes. We'll tell you before a price change applies to you, and you can cancel before it does.
- Refunds are covered by the refund policy. Purchases made through Apple are also subject to Apple's terms.
Chess data and software we use
Opening statistics and puzzles come partly from Lichess's open database, and analysis uses the Stockfish engine. Their licences are listed on the licences page.
No guarantees
ChessReflex is provided as it is. We work to keep it accurate and running, but we don't promise it will be error-free, always available, or that it will improve your results. Engine evaluations and course lines can contain mistakes.
Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before it and US$50. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be waived.
Ending things
You can stop using ChessReflex and delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms; if you have a paid subscription we'll refund the unused part unless the account was closed for fraud.
Changes and governing law
If these terms change, the date at the top changes, and we'll announce significant changes on the site before they take effect. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without overriding the consumer protections of the country you live in.
